Rules of the Base Set

The Base Set is 102 chairs, one product each. An empty chair is $29. Once all 102 are held, a chair changes hands by paying more than its hold, and the sitter can pay the difference to keep it. At a published time the set locks: the 102 on the chairs are 1st Edition, forever. Everything below is read from the code that enforces it.

1Price

Flat entry, then a market for the chairs. You pick the card you want to replace; nobody is bumped by a number. Every amount is paid through Stripe Checkout and settled by the payment, never by the quote. No refunds on a move that lands.

A take cuts the sitter at once and starts a 24-hour clock. If they pay the gap up to the attack, they keep the chair at the new hold and the attacker is cut; if the clock runs out, the attacker keeps it. The hold on a chair is the total ever paid to sit on it, so every war makes the chair dearer. Entering checkout for an empty chair holds it for 5 minutes; a take pays first, nothing is held.

The lock is 2026-10-01 00:00 UTC. It is published here and on the board and does not move. At the lock every open take resolves in the attacker's favour, every chair is stamped 1st Edition, and holds, takes and raises end.

2Bids are final

Money that reaches a completed Checkout is not refunded.

That includes:

  • the $29 to take an empty chair
  • the amount you pay to take someone else's chair
  • the amount you pay to defend, pre-raise, or reclaim
  • a take that you later lose if the incumbent reclaims in 24 hours
  • a chair you lose if someone takes it and you do not reclaim
  • any hold still on your card when the set locks

You are not buying a rank, a rarity, or a guaranteed place in 1st Edition until lock. You are buying a chair at a hold price. Someone else may raise that price. You may match the raise or leave. Leaving does not send the old payment back.

If you pay to take #014 and the holder reclaims in time, they keep #014. Your payment still stands. You do not get the chair and you do not get the money back. You may use another product, or another take, and pay again.

If you hold #014 and you do not reclaim, your product is Cut. The card remains visible on /cut as a record. It is not a refund, a credit, or a second number in this set.

Lock does not settle balances. Whatever you have paid to that point stays paid. The 102 who hold chairs at lock keep them. Everyone else stays out.

Incomplete Checkout, a hold that expires before payment, or a payment that Stripe never confirms, is not a bid. Those do not take a chair and do not need a refund.

Stripe fees on completed payments are not returned.

If two payments hit the same chair, the webhook order decides. The later payment that cannot take the chair is the only case that is reversed, because it never became a bid.

3Rarity

The tier is a band of the score. Verified revenue is required to mint and guarantees at least Uncommon; traffic on its own never lifts a card above Common. Before you pay you see the tier; the exact score and the finish are revealed after.

TierScore
Common0 – 249
Uncommon250 – 449
Rare450 – 649
Double Rare★★650 – 849
Ultra Rare★★850 – 1049
Hyper Rare★★★1050+

4Finish

Rolled once, at mint. A finish is gated by tier: a roll the tier cannot carry falls through to the next finish down. The three art finishes are rarities in their own right and replace the tier's name on the card — a Rare that rolls Gold is a Hyper Rare — while the tier still decides the leaderboard. A mint that completes from your share link earns you one re-roll on your own card: once, ever, announced on the board.

6Proving you own the product

Every card, on either path, proves control of the domain. We give you a token and you put it in one of two places.

A. A DNS TXT record
On the root, or on _baseset.yourdomain, containing
baseset-verify=<token>
B. A file on your site
Plain text containing the token, served at
https://yourdomain/.well-known/baseset.txt

7What we ask for, and why

Your numbers
A read-only key from your own payment provider. For Stripe, a restricted key with exactly three read scopes, Charges: Read, Balance: Read and Subscriptions: Read — revenue, lifetime volume and customers from charges, MRR and subscribers from active subscriptions. It is used for one snapshot, in the request you send it in, and is never written to disk in any form. We then ask you to revoke it. Figures are processed volume, never profit, and the card says which provider they came from.
No numbers, no card
A card cannot be minted without verified revenue. There is no Common-by-default path: every card in the set carries a number someone could check.
Traffic, optional
Visitors over the last 30 days from DataFast (website API key), Plausible (API key and site) or Google Analytics (sign in with Google, read-only, one report on the property you pick). Same terms as the revenue key: one pull, in that request, never stored. Traffic adds to the score; it never replaces revenue and never mints a card on its own.

8What a card is not

Official cards cannot be sold, traded or transferred. A card's score can move as its snapshot moves. Before the lock, a chair — and so a number — can change owner through a take; a product that is cut loses the number and keeps nothing on it. After the lock, number and roster freeze: the 102 on the chairs at 2026-10-01 00:00 UTC are the Base Set, 1st Edition. Score keeps refreshing; membership does not.

9Later editions

Base Set is edition one. At lock, these 102 freeze as 1st Edition, and nothing on this page changes for them afterwards. A second set of 102 — same rules, new chairs — opens after the lock; products that were cut from this one mint there first. Packs and a playable game are possible once the board is alive; they are not for sale now, and official cards still cannot be traded.
